Hollywood star has been seen furiously confronting a fan who he claims "attacked" him during a visit to an IMAX cinema in a video clip which has gone viral.
In the shocking moment Ghostbusters star Bill, 74, is seen threatening the fan to "step on your foot" after the fan appears to be harassing the star. In the clip, Billy is seen wearing a black shirt and walking through the cinema in New York before he abruptly stops and turns around towards a person behind him – who is out of shot.
Bill, who had been attending a Q&A session for his film The Friend at the cinema, then demands: "Stop it," before turning and walking towards the unseen person and warns them: "If you attack me like that again I will step on your foot." The person Bill is confronting is briefly seen in the video with one hand held up in a defensive gesture while holding their phone in their other hand, which appears to be recording.
A security guard is seen behind Bill, as he guides the actor away from the situation. Bill continues: "That's a physical assault you just made", while pointing his finger in the air. The Hollywood star then begins to go up an escalator before the security guard guides him away from it and the pair walk away from the camera.
The actor then warns while walking off: "Don't do it again. You're not big enough to do that." As the clip was posted on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube by a fan, it went viral and has since racked up almost 7 million views across the three platforms.
Bill was defended by fans in the comments section of the Instagram post as one said: "You have to be a number one a hole to p**s off Bill Murray! He’s a national treasure!"
While another insisted: "Ran into Bill a few times Downtown Charleston he is very nice and kind hearted. You got to be really annoying to p**s him off".
"What kinda person messes with Bill Murray.. smh," a third suggested. However, not everyone was on the actor's side as one said: "Murray just another clown celeb fan stands on back his shoe and he says its an assault."
Another added: "Never meet your heroes!" While a third said: "Man, I thought Bill was Cool what happened?"
It comes after Bill recently paid tribute to his former co-star Bruce Willis recently. Bill, 74, starred alongside Bruce, 70, in the film Moonrise Kingdom (2012). He's now revealed that they had crossed paths decades earlier when Bill worked on , with him a cast member from 1977 to 1980. He's shared that around that time Bruce had been an page whose job included refilling snacks in the dressing rooms.

Bruce came up during an interview on Watch What Happens Live on Monday night. Whilst on the late-night talk show, Bill was asked by host Andy Cohen to rank the films that he had appeared in.
Whilst discussing Moonrise Kingdom - which he described as a "really beautiful, lovely film" - Bill paid tribute to one of his co-stars from the -nominated film. He said: "I got to work with, and have a wonderful time with, Bruce Willis." Bill branded Bruce a "wonderful guy" in the gushing tribute.
