Family beg for an end as 50 Amazon dresses they never ordered are delivered to their home

An American family said they are desperate, as for the past few months, they have been receiving mysterious packages which they never ordered.

David Lopez said packages containing an assortment of formal dresses have been arriving at his parents' in Orange County, , since January. He said that when the first package was delivered, his parents opened it and thought it was just a mistake.

However, package deliveries from across the country didn't stop - with more than 50 packages dropped off so far. David said each package contained a lacey dress, with some occasion-style gowns, and while he said it wasn't too suspicious at first, his family now fear there might be something more sinister at play.

Speaking to , David said he suspects the dresses were purchased through Amazon and are being returned by the buyers. He said: "They, unbeknownst to them, they're sending it somewhere, but they're paying for the shipping, and I don't know if they suspect that they're going to get their money back, or if they're not getting their money back, but we don't want to be tied to any of that."

While the family tried returning the packages to the senders, they still keep coming. He said that despite filing fraud claims, reaching out to the US Postal Service as well as Amazon, he has been told there is no issue and nothing can be done "because they can't track or stop the deliveries from coming".

David's partner added: "We're not getting billed for any of these dresses, so they don't really see it as a problem. This isn't like too many purchases on our own account. This isn't even touching our accounts." David said they just want the suspicious ordeal to stop as the packages are "inundating" his parents.

While waiting for clarification on the bizarre situation, David said the family have been donating the dresses to Alianza Translatinx, a non-profit organisation that has a mission to protect, defend, and advocate for the rights and needs of the Transgender Latinx community and other marginalised groups in Orange County. Amazon said on its that third-party sellers are prohibited from sending unsolicited packages to customers - and if you receive a package that you did not order and is not a gift, you should report it immediately.

This is because it could be a scam called "brushing" which happens when bad actors send packages to publicly available names and addresses. Amazon said that after confirming that you definitely didn't order the package and that it wasn't sent to you as a gift by family or friends, you should contact customer service to provide details of the incident. You don't need to return the item, the website said.

It added: "Amazon investigates reports of 'brushing' and takes the appropriate action against bad actors that violate our policies. Amazon may suspend or remove selling privileges, withhold payments, and work with law enforcement during investigations."

The has contacted Amazon and the US Postal Service for comment on David Lopez's situation.
