Half of UK adults have hidden from trick-or-treaters

For the kiddies, Halloween is all about the classic munching on sweets, and sculpting creepy lanterns out of pumpkins.

Now, a survey of 1,000 children aged six to 16 revealed the worst and best places for trick or treating, with Brighton claiming the top spot - followed by Liverpool and Leeds. However, Bristol, Birmingham, and London ranked at the bottom.

Despite 70% of adults believing that Halloween is a significant night for children, only a quarter put in 'a lot' of effort, while 45% only make 'some'.

In response, HARIBO has teamed up with delivery service to launch 'TreatLine', a service where adults can purchase 'Monsters Approved' sweets such as Sour Skeletons from the app in an attempt to boost their trick-or-treat rating.

The emergency sweet service has been launched to assist adults in cities where children are not impressed with the Halloween treats available.

On 31st October, sweets will be given out free of charge in the three lowest scoring locations, with over 24,000 mini bags available to provide a fair reward to trick or treaters.

Phil Murphy, from HARIBO UK and Ireland, stated: "To help save Halloween this year, we want to help grown-ups match the effort kids go to and reward them fairly. Launching the 'TreatLine' is just one of the ways we're making it even easier to do this, taking pressure off adults to also have a little more time themselves to have some fun."

A fifth of respondents said their area doesn't really embrace Halloween, with 32% of children in Sheffield expressing that locals didn't put enough effort into Halloween.

A whopping 14% of adults in the UK have shockingly confessed they've never taken their tots trick or treating, while a modest one in six parents admit to only occasionally joining in on the spooky fun.

In a sneaky bid to swerve trick-or-treating altogether, a startling half of the respondents have drawn the curtains to feign not being home - Bristolians were found to be the most likely to do this.

Piling on the pressure to join in the festivities, Phil Murphy from HARIBO UK and Ireland weighs in: "Halloween gets bigger and bigger every year, we're helping grown-ups see the childlike joy and happiness in all the fun to be had, no matter your age."
