ITV doctor Amir Khan has issued a simple health tip to help people fend off the norovirus amid a surge in cases. The best-selling author and full-time GP joined host Lorraine Kelly on her self-titled morning show amid what has been dubbed a "quadruple-demic".
This term refers to four viruses currently circulating: respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), , Covid-19, and norovirus, often called the "winter vomiting bug". And as usual when the gets chillier, many are also catching the common cold.
Dr Khan explained that RSV and flu are "often caused by droplets" and are airborne illnesses, posing a particular risk to young babies and older adults. He said: "Covid, we know about. Big airborne virus, multisystem, causes all sorts of problems."

Discussing norovirus, he noted it's "definitely on the rise now", adding: "It's caused by contaminated surfaces or getting too close to people who are infected. You are contagious two days before and two days after your symptoms so you've got to stay off work for two days after your symptoms."
He listed the main symptoms as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach cramps, reports. His top tip for preventing its spread? "Wash your hands regularly, so simple!"
Dr Khan advised that individuals should use soap and hot water to clean their hands with hot water, rather than hand sanitiser, to maintain cleanliness. Additionally, he said it is essential to disinfect surfaces and high-touch areas such as door handles and locks in toilets and bathrooms.
Those infected with norovirus are also cautioned against preparing food for others. Dr Khan further explained: "People often ask me 'if I've had norovirus once, can I get it again?' Yes, norovirus is a group of viruses, if you've had one version of it you can get another one - so keep washing your hands!"
