Damian is Liz's only child from her brief relationship with Steve Bing, who she met shortly after her split with Hugh Grant in 2000. The American businessman and film producer initially denied paternity of his son and they didn't have much of a relationship. It's even been reported they never met.
Tragically, Steve died in June 2020 aged 55 after he committed suicide by jumping from the 27th floor of his Los Angeles apartment. This followed years of depression and drug abuse, which he had repeatedly sought help for, according to reports.
A year after his father's death it emerged that Damian had been cut out of his dad's estimated £180 million by his paternal family because he was born out of wedlock. Though Steve had endured a distant relationship with Damian for most of his life, he had started building a more solid relationship with his son when he turned 18 and it's thought they had been in contact leading up to his death.
Praising his mother for raising him alone, Damian has said the pair are so close they are more like siblings. Asked if he felt that he missed out on anything growing up, Damian told German show Exclusiv in 2023: "No. Mum filled the role of 800 parents at the same time. We are so close. Sometimes like siblings."
Now Damian is attempting to follow in his mum's footsteps by breaking into Hollywood. He recently directing her in racy scenes in thriller Strictly Confidential, which Liz is co-producer on.
Talking about them working together, Damian said: "It was really great. I think Mum is a very respectful actress, very respectful to me as a creator and director. It was a once in a lifetime experience. Working with people you love is great."
Though the film got lukewarm reviews and was criticised for a raunchy sex scene of Liz with a woman 30 years her junior, which was filmed by her son, she batted it off and said: "When he [Damian] was really young, he became fascinated with my business. He started doing stills and making mini-movies when he was nine or ten. I gave him a camcorder, and he made me star in all his films."
She added: "I was always playing the Evil Queen. My mum was in them, Hugh was in them, my ex-husband, everybody had to be in his movies, as he progressed through baby movies into more grown-up features. He's actually been directing me for ten years anyway, so nothing really changed. I was just used to it."
