Man finds creepy overgrown staircase in forest – it leads to something terrifying

A man who stumbled upon a staircase in the forest was terrified by what lay at the bottom.

user Josh (@joshtheintern) said he was "not meant to find this place" after documenting his adventure in a creepy video which has been viewed more than 18 million times. "While hiking through a forest I came across this overgrown entrance that led underground," he added.

"Heading inside to explore it I found myself in a maze of long tunnels and secret rooms. This is definitely one of the creepiest abandoned places I have explored!" Josh's clip begins with the moment he discovered the entrance staircase, surrounded by overgrown shrubbery.

After descending the concrete stairs, Josh revealed "things got immediately creepy" as he was found himself in an unlit tunnel. Turning on his torch, he went deeper underground and found a corridor of steel doors, as well as a second staircase which led him much deeper underground.

"Heading down to the bottom I was then met with an even longer tunnel that eventually led me to this massive metal door," Josh continued. "But passing through it I was about to find something else quite creepy."

At this point the tunnel's floor was waterlogged, and Josh banned the camera to show footprint marks on the white walls. "Soon the condition of the tunnel got worse until it branched out into lost of different rooms," Josh added.

"I still had no idea what this place was so I went to find some clues." Next he came across a small green door, which led to another rain sodden enclosure with nothing inside but the rusty remains of an unidentified item.

"Continuing deeper I finally found something I recognised," Josh revealed next. "These were definitely toilets," he said, pointing out the white tiling of two single cubicles. "Finally I did reach the end of the tunnel and found a collection of small rooms," he concluded. He showcased one in particular where it appeared as the though the door had been "blown off", with nothing but a bookcase inside it.

Josh ventured outside again via a different set of stairs and declared: "I still have no idea what this could have been, but whatever it was, they wanted to keep it a secret."

The discovery left Josh's followers equally as confused – and scared. "First rule when going at such a place: NEVER go there ALONE. You never know what could find you," one person advised. "Why nobody talking about footsteps on the wall?" asked a second.

A third person suggested: "Probably an old war bunker intelligence post or something." A fourth pondered eerily: "Was it some kind of old hospital? The tunnels look like the chutes dead bodies were taken through to go to the morgue."

Whilst a fifth said: "Be glad you didn’t find some type of SCP [Secure, Contain, Protect] in there. This really looks like a secret hidden testing and experimental facility."
