An innocent man sat on a bus on his way to work has been shot dead after a stray bullet hit him.
Images and videos of the man sat next to a shattered window have been shared on social media, after reports of a gunfight in Rio de Janiero, . People can be seen scrambling to get off the bus as the man remains in his seat, covered in blood.
One local posted to X and said: "The guy going to work and just gets hit by a stray bullet and dies. Rio de Janeiro is unassailable." Armed police have been seen in the area, close to wear the damaged bus has been abandoned in the road.
In 2022, there were a total of 2,962 shootings registered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. March was the month with the most shootings in each of the given years - in 2023, there were 383 occurrences, or about 13 percent of the year's total. The lowest number of shootings in the given period occurred in August 2023, when 155 cases were recorded.
