Arsenal midfielder was heard telling referee Robert Jones "every week it's the same" after to , with William Saliba sent off for the visitors.

Mikel Arteta's side were shown a red card for the third time this season after Saliba took down Evanilson - who was through on goal - but complained it was a harsh dismissal because of the huge distance from goal.

fan led the outcry on social media, calling it a "ridiculous" red card, given that the challenge on Evanilson took place just past the half way line.

Saliba's red card gave Arsenal an uphill task after being sent for an early bath just 30 minutes into the game, with the team playing most of the game with ten men and eventually succumbing to a 2-0 loss after second half goals from Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert from the spot.

Rice was later seen having words with Jones after the full time whistle - though he was more critical of the team in his post-match press conference.

"We’ve kicked ourselves in the foot three times in eight games and we got away with it at home to Brighton and away at Manchester City," he said.

"I’m proud of the players for fighting, even with 10 men, but the naivety, we need to stop making mistakes because you want 11 players for 90 minutes and that’s what wins you football matches."

It comes after previous red cards for Arsenal saw both Rice and sent off against and respectively - both of which occurred after the players kicked the ball away and led to a furious reaction.

Arteta rued another costly red card and said the latest one was "an accident waiting to happen" at the Vitality Stadium.

"It's very difficult to win in the with 10 men for 60-70 minutes, it's just an accident waiting to happen," Arteta told Sky Sports. "We have had to go through it in three games and that cost us the game.

"We had the big chance and the moment in the game to score and have a different result and then we conceded a goal. We try to stick to the rules. The three [red cards] have been different ones and three very different outcomes."

On the subject of the red card, he said: "The decision has been made. It was made on the pitch, then it was changed on the pitch, now they're not going to change it so decision made." When asked if he agreed with the decision, he simply repeated the words "decision made".
