Former ace has come to the defence of after .
The pair reconnected via video call ahead of Liverpool's impressive 4-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuesday. Alonso, who is now the manager of Leverkusen, spent all five of his seasons at Liverpool playing alongside Carragher, who was providing analysis for CBS Sports,
Prior to Alonso's team suffering a heavy defeat, presenter Kate Scott playfully suggested that her co-host "lies" about his closeness with various footballing stars, such as England skipper Harry Kane. "Our experience of Jamie on this show is that there are times when Jamie lies on this show," Scott joked to Alonso. With Carragher laughing in the background, Alonso responded: "No! Not that much, I can't believe it!"
Scott then followed up by asking: "So an example is Harry Kane, (Carragher) said he has texted Harry and he has come on this show and said that is not true. There are also times when he has said he has texted you. Is that true? Does he have your number? Are you friends?"
"Carra? Yeah, for sure," Alonso confirmed. "We text, we have always texted, even when I left Liverpool. He forgave me pretty soon. So we have always been in contact."
Carragher then chimed in by saying: "We were texting this morning! We had a little text this morning. Xabi was in Liverpool, he was going for a run. I had my spies out watching him, keeping an eye on him making sure he was okay. How did the run go, Xabi?"
"Pretty good, pretty good," Alonso said. "It was good to see my old house, the old street, the old coffees [shops] where I used to go. I know that you are the boss in the city so I couldn't get out of [away from] you!"
Alonso reflected sombrely after his side's defeat at Anfield, sharing with Amazon Prime Video Sport: It is painful, the result more than the performance probably, but this is the Champions League. This is the highest level. It wasn't enough for us.
"It can happen at Anfield that you lose and for sure to lose 4-0 it is not nice. It is hard because at 2-0 we were trying to fight for the one ball that would give us hope. But Liverpool with spaces, they are a top team for that and we were punished for the last two goals."
