The Directorate of Education has issued new guidelines for Delhi schools. This decision has been taken due to rising heat and will be applicable to all government, government-aided aided and privately recognized schools.
In view of the rising temperature in Delhi, the Directorate of Education (Health Branch) has issued new safety guidelines for all government, government aided and private recognized schools. This directive is an extension of the previous circular issued on 27 March 2025, aimed at ensuring the safety of the students.
• Afternoon assembly canceled: There will be no afternoon student assembly in schools due to heat.
• Outdoor classes prohibited: No classes will be taken in the open.
• Outdoor activities closed during heatwave: All outdoor activities will remain closed until the weather becomes normal.
• Drinking water arrangements: Adequate arrangements for clean drinking water will be ensured for the students. RO systems and water coolers should be in working condition.
• Classroom ventilation: Adequate ventilation and functional fans have been made mandatory in all classrooms.
• Water drinking breaks: Scheduled breaks will be given to students to drink water from time to time.
• Fire safety Fire extinguishers should be in working condition in all corridors.
• Sun protection Students will be encouraged to cover their heads with hats, umbrellas or dupattas etc.
• Protection from direct sunlight: No student, parent or staff member should sit or stay in the open sun.
• Treatment of heat-related illnesses: Immediate ORS and first aid will be provided in case of any heat-related illness.
• Illness reporting: Reporting of all cases to the nearest health centre or hospital will be mandatory.
• General hygiene All safety and hygiene measures already in place will be strictly followed.
Severe heat likely in Delhi
According to the Meteorological Department, severe heat has been predicted in the national capital Delhi. On Friday, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 21.6 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 42 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has already issued a warning that this year severe heat will be seen in various parts of the country.
