Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan, celebrated for directing cult comedies like Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om, and Tees Maar Khan, has recently shared why she pivoted from directing films to creating content on YouTube. Known for her candid and humorous approach, Farah opened up about the practical and personal reasons behind this career shift during an episode of Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle on Prime Video.

Farah, who has not directed a film since 2014’s Happy New Year, revealed that she began posting videos on YouTube in April 2024. Her channel, primarily featuring cooking vlogs with her chef Dilip, quickly became a hit, garnering almost 3 million subscribers and a strong following of 4.5 million on Instagram.
Explaining her decision, Farah said, “Even when my movie was not happening, when I wasn’t directing, I said chal (come on), let me do YouTube, because I can see the skew. Also, I have 3 kids who will go to university next year, and that’s bloody expensive. So I just said for a lark, let me start a show on YouTube, and that just clicked.” Her triplets, Czar, Anya, and Diva, are now 17 years old, and supporting their college education played a key role in her choice to explore new avenues.
A Career Built Around Passion
Farah also highlighted that her work is driven by personal fulfillment rather than external validation. “Your life can’t revolve around another person. I feel happiness has to come from within and from your work. Work actually gives me a lot of pleasure. Also, I feel that for me, I can work till I’m 80 because my work doesn’t depend on either my looks or, clearly, not my body, ever,” she remarked. This reflects her commitment to longevity in the entertainment industry, emphasizing passion and enjoyment over trends or appearance.
