Srinagar: The ruling alliance in Jammu and Kashmir led by CM Omar Abdullah on Friday held an emergency meeting in Srinagar and passed a resolution condemning the Waqf Ammendment Bill passed by the Parliament, terming it as anti-Muslim and anti-minority. " Waqf Amendment Bill passed by the Rajya Sabha is against the minorities and Muslims of this country. We condemn and reject this bill," said Tanvir Sadiq, NC's legislator. The meeting was attended by NC president Farooq Abdullah and alliance partners, including Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and independent legislators who support the government. "Today India has moved into the dark era of brute majoritarianism where minority rights have been shown the door. As a Muslim voice in Parliament, I was not even allowed to speak," said NC's Lok Sabha member from Srinagar Aga Ruhullah.
The ruling alliance also passed a resolution stating that the mandate of the people who participated in the assembly elections should be respected. The resolution was passed in context of the recent transfers of senior bureaucrats done by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. "There is a need to respect the mandate of the people. Our coordination with the Government of India and Lieutenant Governor should not be construed as our weakness. We want to run this government smoothly," said Sadiq.
