Delhi's weather is experiencing sudden significant changes! The strong winds and heavy rainfall are taking over the city. Looking at the current situation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the National Capital Region (NCR), predicting light rain accompanied by dust storms and strong winds along with thunderstorms in the coming days.
As per IMD, Delhi will experience thunderstorms with light rain between May 16 and May 22. On May 16, the city is expected to experience heavy dust storms and light rain, with wind speeds reaching between 30 to 40 km/h. During the evening/night, the speed of winds might touch 50 km/h.
Similar weather conditions are anticipated on May 17. The wind speeds on this day are expected to be between 30 and 40 km/h, with wind again reaching up to 50 km/h in the morning. Between May 18 and May 19, the weather will remain cloudy with winds. No significant rainfall is expected during this period.
On May 22, the weather is likely to change with light rain and dust storms accompanied by winds of 30 to 40 km/h, and gusts possibly reaching 50 km/h. The IMD has credited the current weather and strong winds from western Rajasthan. This has led to a significant reduction in visibility, with readings at Indira Gandhi International Airport dropping from 4,500 meters to 1,200 meters within a short span.
The dust-accompanied winds have also contributed to a sharp decline in air quality, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching hazardous levels in several areas. Given the current scenario, people living in Delhi NCR are advised to take all necessary measures to safeguard themselves.
It's recommended to stay indoors during dust storms and thunderstorms, wear masks, and use air purifiers to safeguard from poor air quality. Additionally, drivers should exercise caution due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.
Delhi's weather is expected to remain like this only over the coming days, with intermittent dust storms, light rain, and thunderstorms. The IMD's yellow alert serves as a cautionary measure to ensure public safety during these adverse weather conditions.
