Premanand Ji Maharaj: Saint Premanand Ji Maharaj of Vrindavan is one of those saints whose words not only have spiritual depth but also have very clear and precise answers to small questions of life. Videos of his sermons are widely watched on social media and touch people's hearts. One such video is in discussion these days, in which a devotee asked Premanand Ji Maharaj, "Maharaj, does evil eye occur? Is it right to remove the evil eye or is it all just superstition?"

Premanand Ji answered this question in very simple and straightforward words. He said that when someone is very dear to us, we have a fear in our mind that something wrong may happen to him. This fear forces us to do something to protect him from the evil eye. We remove his evil eye, sometimes apply black tilak, and sometimes burn salt or chili by rolling it in the hand. All this is our feeling, our concern, and an expression of our love.
He said that when Yashoda Maiya used to ward off the evil eye from Shri Krishna, it was not witchcraft, but a way of love of a mother for her beloved. Premanand Ji said, “When we ward off the evil eye of our beloved, we sacrifice ourselves, then it is just an emotion. And Shri Krishna, who runs the world, who thinks well for everyone, how can someone's evil eye fall on him? This is something to think about.”
After this, he explained very easily that there is no power like an evil eye that can harm someone. Our thoughts, feelings, and thinking are the real power. If we have negative thoughts and are afraid, then we experience the same. But if there is true love and positive thinking in the mind, then no evil eye or external influence can even touch us.
Maharaj Ji said that evil eye is not a reality, it is an illusion that is going on from generation to generation. And removing the evil eye is also not a solution, it is just a way by which we calm our mind.
In this way, Premanand Ji Maharaj said something on this subject that can touch everyone's heart. He rejected superstition and said that the real power lies in our way of thinking, and in our feelings. What we think, we feel the same.

From this answer of Premanand Ji Maharaj, it is clear that things like the evil eye do not stand the test of science or logic. It is only an emotional reaction of our fear, worry and love. Removing the evil eye is also not a solution, but an emotional support that gives us relief.
