The Monday of the Sawan month is a special time for the worship of Lord Shiva. Abhishek of Lord Shiva on Monday is very fruitful. Reading Rudrashtakam, Shiva Puran, and Shiva Mantras is especially fruitful. On the first Monday of Sawan month, on July 14, Dhanishtha and Shatabhisha Nakshatra will be there, and Ayushman and Saubhagya Yoga will be there. On this day, Gajanan Sankashti Chaturthi will be there; at this time, the worship of Lord Shiva will give auspiciousness to the devotees.

Monday is the day of Chandradev, and the moon itself is seated on the head of Lord Shiva. Therefore, this day is considered very auspicious for Shiva worship. Sawan Mondays are effective because in this season, the effect of the Sun is less and the effect of the Moon is more. The Moon is the lord of the mind, and this time is considered the best for mental purification, emotional balance, and spiritual advancement. Rudrabhishek performed with devotion on this day calms the disorders of the mind, awakens devotion, and the blessings of Lord Shiva are attained quickly.

According to the Puranas, Samudra Manthan took place in the month of Shravan. At that time, 14 types of elements and 14 gems came out of Samudra Manthan. Out of these, 13 elements and gems were distributed among the gods and demons, but one of those elements was Halahal poison. That Halahal poison was given to Lord Shankar. Lord Shankar wore Halahal poison in his throat. Due to this, Lord Shankar's throat turned blue; due to this, Lord Shankar was called Neelkanth. But the heat of that poison was so high that the gods could not find any way to cool the heat of the poison. On this, Shiva Shankar wore the cooling moon on his head and descended Ganga on Lord Shankar's head, so that the heat did not reduce. Lord Shankar was anointed with streams of thousands of waters. Since then, the tradition and belief of offering water to Lord Shiva has been going on.

How to worship Lord Shiva on Sawan Monday

1- Offering water to the Shivling on Monday is considered to be of special importance. Mix a little Ganga water in pure water and perform Abhishek of the Shivling.

2- After offering water to the Shivling, you should take that water with your fingers and apply it on your eyes, neck, and forehead.

3- It is considered better to use a copper, brass, or silver pot for Jalabhishek.

4- To get the auspicious results of Shiva worship, it is most important that you always worship him with a pure body and mind and with a calm mind.

5- Lord Shiva applies Tripund of sandalwood on his forehead. Therefore, definitely offer sandalwood to Lord Shiva. This increases respect and fame in society.

What should not be done?

1- Always chant Shiva mantras with a Rudraksha rosary and never wear a Jaap Mala.

2- Lord Shiva is such a deity who gets pleased by just offering a Shami or Belpatra; never offer a torn Belpatra to Mahadev, even by mistake. Offer Belpatra and Shamipatra upside down and remove the stalk of the back part, which is called Vajra and offer it to Shiva.

3- Never use turmeric, basil, Champa, and Ketaki flowers in the worship of Lord Shiva even by mistake.

4- While offering water, it should be kept in mind that the water stream falls thin and slowly on the Shivling. Do Jalabhishek of Shivling not by standing straight but by sitting or by bending a little.

5- One should never cross the Jalhari (from where water falls downwards during Abhishek) of the Shivling.
