Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh: A 25-year-old man in Bareilly’s Sirauli was rescued by the local police after he climbed onto the roof of a two-storey house, threatening to end his life over relentless humiliation surrounding his marriage.
The man, identified as Gurudev, had reportedly been mocked and labelled “mad” by villagers and even his own relatives, because they couldn’t accept that someone like him had married a bride with “a model-like figure” and a “Miss Universe-like attitude”.
The dramatic five-hour rescue mission took place on Sunday, May 25.
Mocked for Marrying a Beautiful Woman
According to police reports and local sources, Gurudev had tied the knot just over a month ago. However, instead of celebration, he was met with jeers, jokes, and degrading remarks questioning how someone like him could end up with such a beautiful woman.
“They kept saying things like, ‘How did you manage to marry such a girl?’ It was no longer light teasing, it became character assassination,” a local villager told Dainik Bhaskar.
Gurudev, mentally distressed from the constant ridicule, finally snapped and scaled the terrace of a nearby building, threatening to jump.
How Was Gurudev Rescued?
The police were alerted around 4.00 PM on May 25. Officers from Sirauli Police Station cordoned off the area upon their arrival. Tarpaulin sheets, mattresses, and nets were laid out to break a potential fall, while officers and villagers pleaded with Gurudev to step down.
