Mumbai: In a significant decision aimed at honoring religious sentiments and addressing public demand, the metro station near the ISKCON Temple at Juhu—located on the Metro Line 2B stretch from ESIC Nagar to DN Nagar—is set to be renamed ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna Mandir Metro Station’.
The decision was made following a high-level meeting chaired by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, along with MP Ravindra Waikar. During the meeting, Shinde directed MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee to implement the renaming of the metro station.
The proposal for renaming was originally submitted by MP Ravindra Waikar through an official representation to then Chief Minister, now Deputy CM, Eknath Shinde. The demand has been supported by devotees and local residents, who have long requested that the metro station reflect the temple's spiritual significance due to its proximity to the renowned ISKCON Temple, a major spiritual attraction for visitors from across India and abroad.
The meeting, held on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Deputy CM Shinde’s office in the state legislature building, was convened to address pending issues in the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituency.
Key officials present included Asim Gupta (Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department), Sanjeev Jaiswal (Vice President and Managing Director, MHADA), Bhushan Gagrani (BMC Commissioner), Mahendra Kalyankar (SRA CEO), Additional CP Meena, Milind Borikar (CEO, MHADA Mumbai Board), and several senior officers from various departments.
Metro Line 2B connects DN Nagar in Andheri West to Mandale in Mankhurd, acting as a vital east-west transit corridor for Mumbai. The ISKCON Temple in Juhu is a major religious site attracting a growing number of devotees each day. With the new metro line passing close to the temple, the renaming is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters and pilgrims.
