Vijay Raaz starrer Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder has become one of the most controversial films of the year. Petitions have been filed to ban the movie. According to Bar and Bench, on Thursday, the Delhi High Court stayed the release of the film, which was slated to hit the big screens on July 11, 2025. The Bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Anish Dayal has asked the Central government to examine its content under Section 6 of the Cinematograph Act.
The Court heard the petitions, including one filed by Maulana Arshad Madani, head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, who feels that the film shows the Muslim community in a negative light, and it could lead to communal tensions.
The Bench ordered, "Accordingly, we permit the petitioner to approach the Central government within two days, and in case the petitioners approach the Central government, he may also make a prayer for interim measures. Once the petitioner approaches the Central government with a revision petition, the same shall be considered and decided within a period of one week after giving opportunity to the producer.”
The court also ordered the stay on the release of the film. It ordered. "Since we are relegating the petitioner to invoke the remedy of revision under Section 6 of the Act, we provide that ... there shall be stay on release of film.”
