For 66-year-old Maria da Fatima Viegas, from Raia, singing has always been a passion. “Singing helps me stay consistent and motivated,” she says, as she practices her verse for the second edition of Crescendo, a spectacular musical extravaganza presented by Allegro Music Academy.
After showcasing their music to a houseful audience in Margao, the group of over 100 musicians is ready to perform at Kala Academy, Panjim, on May 9, 2025 at 7 pm.
Like Maria, the troupe comprises individuals from different age groups, which include musicians, ballroom dancers, dancers, children singing and dancing and a choral group.
Being a homemaker, Maria is very passionate about her craft. “I try to make practice a non-negotiable part of my routine. I truly enjoy my time doing it,” says the soprano.

The music will have a blend of traditional and classical rhythm. “We transition into a vibrant selection of jazz and popular tunes, and finally, culminate in an exhilarating celebration of our heritage,” say Kai Da Costa, who adds that songs will be sung in Hindi, Konkani, Spanish and English.
The orchestra has helped Chavara A Crasto discover a newfound confidence.
“I'm honoured to be in a group that’s diverse, yet deeply united through our shared love for music. I hope the music moves the audience emotionally and reminds them of how deeply music can connect across languages, borders and beliefs,” says Chavara.
The choir will also perform original compositions by Fr Peter, set to the evocative lyrics and poetry of Goa's Manohar Rai Sardesai. The song pays heartfelt homage to St Joseph Vaz.

“Professor Manohar Rai Sardesai was an eminent professor and a prolific Konkani poetry writer. This year being his birth centenary, the Crescendo Musical Troupe is pleased to honour him with his beautiful lyrics on St Joseph Vaz,” says Fr Peter.
The concert will also include a dedication by Fr Peter, who has composed a song to celebrate the life of Pope Francis.
