Many motorists have recently made a surprising discovery - a small fuel logo situated on the dashboard of their holds a hidden meaning. The pump icon, accompanied by a small left or right-pointing arrow, serves as a convenient indicator revealing the location of the fuel cap.
By taking note of this detail, drivers can save precious seconds when stopping to refuel, as they will be able to position their vehicle in the correct spot to easily access the fuel pump. This is especially helpful for individuals operating unfamiliar vehicles, such as company cars, rentals or vans.

Annie Winterburn, a user running the channel @theorytestpractice, confessed that she only became aware of this handy tip five years ago, despite having over three decades of driving experience, reports .
Sharing the information on TikTok, Annie explained: "Have you ever got to the petrol station and can't remember which side to go to fill your car up? Well here's a really easy way of knowing. Have a look at the picture on your dashboard of the petrol pump, you will see an arrow next to it.
"This arrow is telling you which side you need to go to fill up. If there isn't an arrow the hose of the picture will either be on the left or the right and that will tell you what side your filler cap is on. Did you know that already."
One TikTok user, @lindiloy7, remarked: "Been driving for 40 years. I only found this out about a year ago." @hhx. 05 remarked: "I told my dad this a few years ago and he still thanks me for telling him to this day. I literally saw it on a life hack video."
@lor9888 said: "When I learned this a couple of years ago, my life was changed forever."
@carolyn. 11 commented: "I knew about the arrow but not the hose lol I don't have an arrow lol but I know now about the hose."
@ayeshaesimarie posted: "No I didn't know this really useful information thank you I will definitely use this to help me remember in the future." @madstagangster wrote: "I had no idea normally I walk out the car to check."
However, one social media user wondered about the necessity of such a reminder, posing the question: "How can you forget which side your car fuels up from? Tbh most cars I've driven including all them I've owned minus one all filled from the left."
The folks at Driving Test Success also chimed in with their insight via a short TikTok on the handle @drivingtestsuccess4in1.
Their advice was clear: "In a lot of cars the arrow by the fuel pump on your dashboard tells you which side the fuel cap is on the car for when you to fill up."
But car owner @tomsbrickworks added his perspective: "Not all cars have it tho." leading Driving Test Success to concur with a succinct: "Very true!"
