Being seated on a planeafter going through the stressful airport experience can be a real relief. So it makes sense that passengers would want to sit back, relax and enjoy their journeys. However, this doesn’t always happen.
And one holidaymaker learned this first-hand – as she had to put up with some gross behaviour from a fellow passenger during their flight. She posted a clip on TikTok to share that she had to endure an unpleasant smell for part of her Ryanair flight.
The video starts with the passenger sitting in her seat showing the back of the seat in front of her with the on-screen text: “For the first half of my flight I kept smelling something awful.”

She then moves the camera down to the floor and then reveals the ‘culprit’ – a white sock belonging to the passenger behind her, indicating that their exposed feet was giving off an odour.
The TikTok user humorously added a voiceover that says: “And now I want to sit back and relax and enjoy my evening when all of a sudden I hear this agitating, grating voice.”
It is a quote from the reality TV show Dance Moms, spoken by Abby Lee, and has been used in many comedic TikTok videos.
The Ryanair passenger’s video has garnered 278,800 views, more than 1,100 likes and several comments, at the time of writing.
One user said: “That is gross! People are so unaware sometimes.”
The flyer replied: “They smelt so bad, wish I was brave enough to tell him to move them back to his space.”
Another added: “Sorry but that should be a criminal offence.” A third chimed in: “My heels would be slamming down onto those toes so fast.”
A fourth viewer echoed: “See I would have thrown my foot back and cracked a few toes!! Horrible people who do that.”
Smelly feet are up there with the most common bad smells – and it’s made worse on a plane as aircrafts have some recycled air. This makes it harder to escape odours as the windows obviously can't be opened.
Taking your socks off is widely seen as poor etiquette on any form of public transport, as the smell of feet can be uncomfortable for passengers nearby.
Not to mention nobody wants someone else’s socks near their seat during a flight!
