Katie Price and Alex Reid's brutal break-up as he wages war against 'fame seeker'

Alex Reid and Katie Price were only Mr and Mrs for 12 months before calling time on their rocky relationship. Fresh from her divorce from Peter Andre, the glamour icon, 47, started dating the former cage fighter, 50, just eight weeks after her split from Pete, 52, in 2010 following a chance meeting at Michelle Heaton’s 30th birthday party at Cafe De Paris in London.

The curious couple headed to Sin City six months later after scrapping a deal with a glossy magazine in favour of a quickie ceremony that was organised by Katie and her friends while Alex was in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

However, after less than a year of being wed they called it quits, with Katie admitting they had 'married too soon'. It comes as Alex leaked a video of the OnlyFans star appearing to count wads of cash amid bankruptcy as he vowed to "reveal the truth"about his 'fame hungry' ex.

In the video, Katie, who was bankrupted twice over debts totalling more than £3m, was asked by daughter Princess if she would help pay her school fees and those of her second child with ex-husband Peter Andre. Price responded: "Your dad can sit on that” before lifting a middle finger.

Wearing white jodhpurs and sat next to a Christmas tree, she continued: “Does he go on about it a lot? Well it’s tough because I’m in bankruptcy to next May now." The Mirror understands that the one minute and 38 second video, believed to have been filmed in late 2020, has been sent to Price’s bankruptcy trustee who continues to “seek realisations from various third parties”.

A representative for the star said: "This is a video that was shared with Katie’s Trustee in Bankruptcy several months ago and Katie has fully complied with the Trustee’s investigations into the same.

"The cash featured did not belong to Katie and the property referred to was dealt with in the financial settlement proceedings arising out of Katie’s divorce from Peter Andre. Katie's Trustee in Bankruptcy is aware of the property and has undoubtedly investigated whether the same ought to be comprised in the bankruptcy estate."

The explosive video and statement from Alex comes 13 years after their split in 2012. The former couple's break-up was a bitter one, with a savage war of words being exchanged on both sides. So, as we wait for Alex's next move in an explosive chain of events, here's a look at the former couple's savage split...

Katie's lengthy split statement

After weeks of speculation around their marriage, Katie released a statement in January 2011 to announce her separation from Alex after just 11 months of marriage.

In the lengthy statement issued by her publicist, after Alex was pictured moving out of their home, Katie claimed Alex had "changed from the man I fell in love with" and their issues were exacerbated by him "becoming more fascinated by life in the media eye".

She said: "Alex and I have had a number of difficulties over the past few months. I accept that these were in part caused by my marrying too quickly – we all make mistakes and this was one. However, Alex changed from the man I fell in love with and some of his behaviour became difficult for me to understand and caused issues. I have tried to help him with these issues but they have put a considerable strain on our relationship."

Alex claims he was 'like a lamb to the slaughter'

Alex said he felt like a "lamb to the slaughter" after breaking up with Katie. The former MMA fighter discussed his high-profile marriage with the former glamour model on GB News with Nigel Farage in 2023.

He said: "All of a sudden I'm stratospheric everywhere because of my relationship with a certain person. I'm everywhere.

"I was just swept away with it. I didn't know what planet I was on. I was like a lamb to the slaughter."

Referencing the "name calling" and Alex's subsequent legal action, Nigel commented: "The marriage didn't last that long. You've been going through, from what I can see of it, eight or nine years of legal action of name calling back and forth with her."

Katie is sued by Alex

Alex sued Katie for allegedly "distributing private information – some of it of a sexual nature", which "violated his right to privacy" in 2020. She allegedly shared an explicit video clip of him to an audience on Celebrity Big Brother's Bit On The Side in 2018.

The OnlyFans star was ordered to pay £250,000 five years ago - with Alex claiming he was still waiting for the money last year. In January 2024, he opened up to the Mirror, accusing Katie of verbal threats, saying: "Katie Price debt stories have come out due to Katie not paying money owed due to a court case she lost.

"I believe it was a landmark hearing by the courts, ruling in a public case a celebrity has intentionally publicly humiliated me. This is backed by years of direct threats from her mouth."

Alex continued: "If it wasn't me, then it would be somebody else. It's admirable how she sticks up for Harvey like any parent would, as I would with any of my children, but to then go and attack people doing exactly what people have done to you and your own son is not just hypocritical and contradictory, is disgraceful and undermines any good you have done."

He concluded: "The judge made a decision and she has to face her responsibility. As every action has consequences." In response to the claims, a representative of Katie said: "Let him get on with it... Kate won't be responding to any stories put forward by Alex or his team. It's old news and it's boring now."

Alex accuses Katie of being 'fame hungry'

After their doomed marriage, Alex accused the mum-of-five of being 'addicted to the press and media', saying it is "so bad she will put anything out as long as her name is in the news at the total disregard of the consequences for anybody else."

He continued to The Sun: "I'm down as the shortest marriage to Katie, which is really positive as I managed to get out and escape. Unfortunately I didn't escape the years of abuse from my bitter ex. I walked away for years, but the continued abuse has been so much, I made a stand, for not only me but my family and friends."

The Celebrity Big Brother star concluded: "The judge made a decision and she has to face her responsibility. As every action has consequences."

Katie skewers Alex's fetishes

In her autobiography Katie tore into Alex's 'weird and kinky' fetishes, saying: ''Think of the most disturbing s**t you could imagine, and times that by ten.

"Only then are you getting close to what I witnessed and what Alex wanted me to join in with."

Alex claims Katie 'made me come out as a cross-dresser'

Following Katie's claims, Alex accused his ex-wife of forcing him to come out as a cross-dresser for her own financial gain.

The cage fighter and actor's alter-ego of Roxanne was outed by his then-partner back in October 2009, and he debuted her in public at the book launch for Katie's fashion guide Standing Out: My Look, My Style, My Life later that month, dressed in a gold spandex bodysuit.

By 2011, Alex apparently told friends that Katie - then his estranged wife - had killed off Roxanne by forcing him to expose her. Earlier in the year, during a discussion of Eddie Redmayne's Lili Elbe biopic The Danish Girl on Loose Women, Katie again referenced Reid's cross-dressing.

"She brought Roxanne out and she's the one who keeps talking about her," Alex told The Sun. "The only reason people know about Roxanne is because she exposed me at her book launch - and even then they didn't meet the real her, they met Katie's version of Roxanne - one she had conjured up for her own financial and business gains."

'The prostitute years'

In 2017, Alex slammed his marriage to Katie as the "prostitute years" and said his ex-wife will "do anything to make a buck".

Claiming he was delighted to be leaving the showbiz spotlight behind, he told The Sun: "The celebrity world doesn't really make me money - it might do for Katie, but it's a pretty crappy life having to sell your soul to make a living. I call it the prostitute years."
