ATM cash withdrawal Charges 2025: If you also often withdraw money from ATM, then there is an important news for you. From May 1, 2025, withdrawing cash from ATM after the free limit is going to be expensive. The Reserve Bank (RBI) has approved the increase in ATM charges. That is, now every time you withdraw money after the free limit is over, there will be a little more burden on your pocket. Let us know what effect this change will have on the common man and how it can be avoided.
How much has the fee for withdrawing money from ATM increased?Till now, a charge of Rs 21 was levied for withdrawing cash from ATM after the free transaction limit was over. But from May 1, 2025, Rs 23 will have to be paid for every additional transaction. That is, if you withdraw money from ATM after the free limit, you will have to pay Rs 2 extra every time. This expense will increase for those who use ATM several times a month.
No change has been made in the free transaction limitThere has been no change in the free limit. This means that customers can still transact 5 times free from their bank's ATM every month. Apart from this, 3 free transactions from another bank's ATM in metro cities and 5 free transactions in non-metro cities will continue to be available. The new charge will be applicable only if you withdraw money more than the set limit.
Small banks have more impact on customersExperts say that the increase in ATM charges will have the greatest impact on the customers of small banks. Small banks have fewer ATMs and they depend on the network of big banks. In such a situation, if the free transaction limit is over, then these customers may have to pay more money every time. In such a situation, to avoid high charges, some customers may also consider changing banks so that they get the facility of free transactions more often.
What is the reason for increasing ATM charges?Banks and third party ATM operators (such as white-label ATM companies) were demanding an increase in the charges for a long time. They said that the cost of operating ATMs has increased a lot and they are incurring losses. On this, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) recommended an increase in the charges to RBI, which has now been approved. Therefore, this new rule will come into effect from May 1.
