Brother-in-law's Grudge Turns Deadly: Young Man Brutally Murdered in Gurugram for Eloping with Sister

A harrowing case has come to light in Gurugram, Haryana, where a young man named Sameer was murdered in a manner described as ‘Talibani punishment’ by the police, all because he had a love marriage with his wife against her family’s wishes.

What Happened?

• Sameer, 22, originally from Mau district (UP) and living in Ballabhgarh, had recently eloped with his partner, leading to a strained relationship with her family—especially her brother.

• On July 6, Sameer was kidnapped by his brother-in-law and several accomplices. He was bound, blindfolded, and his throat was slit with a knife before his body was dumped in the Aravalli hills near Ansal Farm House, Gurugram.

• The body was discovered in a severely decomposed state with a woman’s name tattooed on his arm. A knife was found nearby, adding to suspicions of murder. With no immediate identification, police cremated the body after 72 hours in the mortuary.

• The missing person’s report, filed on July 7 by Sameer’s family at Ballabhgarh police station, led Gurugram police to connect the dots. The family later identified Sameer via photographs.

• Investigation of call records linked the crime to the victim’s in-laws, culminating in the arrest of four accused: Mahesh (the main suspect, still absconding), Ramsadan alias Vicky, his wife Leela Devi, and Aleem Khan. All were apprehended from Gurugram, Bhiwadi, and Tijara in Rajasthan.

Police concluded the murder was rooted in the brother-in-law’s anger over Sameer’s love marriage with his sister.
