The Indian cricket team is currently in England for a five-match Test series, with the final game scheduled to begin on July 31. Meanwhile, several Indian players have been participating in county cricket to gain valuable experience in English conditions. In a surprising development, one of India's star bowlers, Khaleel Ahmed, has abruptly left England, ending his stint with Essex due to personal reasons.
Essex County Cricket Club released an official statement confirming that Khaleel will not be available for the remainder of the season. "Although we are sad to see him leave, we fully support Khaleel's decision and are grateful for his contribution during his time with us," the club stated.
Khaleel had signed a two-month contract with Essex, intending to play six first-class matches and up to ten List A games in the One-Day Cup. However, he only featured in two first-class matches, where he claimed a total of four wickets. Before joining Essex, he had impressed with a four-wicket haul in a match against England Lions representing India A.
Khaleel’s International Record
Khaleel Ahmed made his international debut for India in 2018. Since then, he has played 11 ODIs and 18 T20Is, picking up 15 wickets in ODIs and 16 in T20s. While his last ODI appearance came in 2019, he made a return to India's T20 squad in 2023.
