A powerful earthquake struck Pakistan shortly after midnight, causing widespread panic as residents rushed out of their homes in fear. According to the National Center for Seismology, the tremors were recorded at 12:40 am on Sunday night, August 3, 2025, with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale. The earthquake originated at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the surface. The intensity was strong enough to wake people from their sleep, forcing them to evacuate their houses.

In addition to this, ARY News reported that another significant earthquake occurred just a day earlier on Saturday, August 2, registering a magnitude of 5.4. The tremors were felt across several regions including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Islamabad, leaving people frightened and anxious.

Pakistan frequently experiences seismic activity due to its geographical positioning. Earthquakes that originate close to the earth’s surface are especially dangerous because the seismic waves have less distance to travel, increasing the intensity of ground shaking and the potential for structural damage.

Regions in Pakistan such as Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan lie along the southern boundary of the Eurasian tectonic plate, while Sindh and Punjab are located on the northwestern edge of the Indian plate. Balochistan in particular is near the active boundary between the Arabian and Eurasian plates, making it highly susceptible to earthquakes. Although Sindh is relatively less exposed, it still faces seismic risk due to its position. This tectonic setting makes large parts of the country vulnerable to frequent and sometimes devastating earthquakes.
