If you are also dreaming of getting admission in IIT, then now there is great news for you. Now you will not need to pass difficult exams like JEE Mains or JEE Advanced to get admission in IIT. IIT Kanpur has started a new scheme under which students can get admission on the basis of Olympiad score.

Admission under the new scheme

IIT Kanpur has announced that Olympiad scores will now be considered for admission of students to BTech and BS programmes. Specifically, this scheme will be implemented for Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology Olympiads. According to institute officials, students will get admission based on the results of these Olympiads.

In which departments will the scheme be implemented?

This new scheme is currently being implemented in only 5 departments of IIT Kanpur. These departments are:

Biological Sciences and Bio-Engineering Computer Science and Engineering Chemistry Economics Maths and Statistics

If a student has Olympiad ranks in more than one subject, then the subject with the highest rank will be given preference. For example, if a student has the same rank in both Biology and Maths, then the rank of Maths will be given preference. Whereas, in Biology, Physics and Chemistry Olympiads, candidates from Biology channel will be given preference.

Admission in Computer Science and other departments

For admission in the Department of Computer Science, the scores of Maths and Informatics Olympiad will be taken as the basis. Whereas, in the Department of Chemistry, only the marks of Chemistry Olympiad will be taken into consideration. Apart from this, in departments like Economics, Mathand Statistics, the Math Olympiad rank will be considered as the basis.

Shortlisting & Examination Process

Under the selection process, students will be shortlisted on the basis of the Olympiad rank list. The shortlisted students will have to take a written exam, which will be different from JEE. However, this exam will also be considered mandatory. Apart from this, if any department feels that an interview is required, then that can also be taken.

Under this new scheme, the path to admission in IIT Kanpur can now become a little easier for the students, especially for those students who have performed well in the Olympiad. Now they will get relief from difficult exams like JEE, and their focus will be directly focused on the Olympiad.
