IPL 2025: Mohali set for high-stakes IPL encounter on April 5 with Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals face off

PTC Web desk: Mohali’s Mullanpur Cricket Stadium is set to host a thrilling clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 5 at 7.30 pm as both teams lock horns for the first time in IPL 2025. Having arrived in Chandigarh earlier this week, both squads are rigorously preparing to claim victory in this crucial match.

The Mullanpur Cricket Stadium has not been a fortunate venue for Punjab Kings in previous seasons. The team has managed a dismal 20% win rate at this home ground. With a new leader in charge, captain Shreyas Iyer faces the challenge of turning their home fortunes around.

In the last season, Punjab Kings won only 5 out of 14 matches, securing 10 points. Notably, they lost both their matches played in Dharamshala. Their overall IPL record against Rajasthan Royals is also concerning, with PBKS winning only 12 out of 28 encounters, while RR has triumphed in 16. Adding to PBKS's worries, Rajasthan Royals also won the only IPL match played at Mullanpur so far.

A major boost for Rajasthan Royals comes in the form of their captain, Sanju Samson, who is making a comeback after recovering from an injury. Samson has been a key performer in PBKS vs. RR clashes, amassing 632 runs—the highest by any player in their head-to-head matchups.

For Punjab Kings, their pace spearhead Arshdeep Singh holds the record for most wickets in these contests, having taken 17 scalps. His performance will be crucial in countering Rajasthan’s batting power.

Spectators attending the match at Mullanpur Cricket Stadium should be aware of restrictions on carrying certain items inside the venue. Prohibited items include: Outside food and beverages, bags and laptops, vapes, lighters, and any intoxicating substances, weapons or hazardous objectsm, drones, selfie sticks, and professional cameras.
