Alexander Isak to Liverpool transfer update as Newcastle dealt blow

With merely hours left of the summer transfer window, speculation continues to swirl around a potential last-minute swoop by Liverpool for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. There are suggestions that confidence exists regarding the possibility of completing such a deal.

Nevertheless, it appears another obstacle may have emerged, with Newcastle United facing a setback in their pursuit of a potential replacement. The BBC has reported that for Isak to secure his move to Liverpool, the Magpies would need to bring in two strikers.

One acquisition has already been completed, with Nick Woltemade finalising his switch from Stuttgart on Saturday. Newcastle, though, are still working to secure a second forward.

Wolves' Jorgen Strand Larsen remains one of their primary targets. The club have had two offers rejected by the Midlands outfit thus far, with the latest bid valued at approximately £55million.

Amidst the uncertainty surrounding his future, Strand Larsen was omitted from the Wolves squad for their Premier League encounter against Everton. He observed from the stands as his team suffered a 3-2 defeat.

Speaking to Sky Sports following the match, Wolves boss Vitor Pereira dealt a blow to Newcastle's aspirations of securing the striker in the remaining two days of the window. When questioned whether Strand Larsen would remain at the club, he responded: "I hope so. He is an important player.

"Today, if he plays, his quality could give us something else. We are not in a situation to sell our best players. The information I have is that he will stay with us."

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, he emphasised that his team "need to bring more players, not to sell players".

This latest development suggests that Newcastle may have to shift their focus elsewhere for a striker. Any deal they strike could potentially pave the way for Isak to make a move to Liverpool.

Brentford's Yoane Wissa is another name to be linked with a move to St James' Park. The striker has outlined his desire to leave the Bees this summer in a statement released on Sunday.

Liverpool had previously seen a £110million bid for Isak rejected earlier this summer. The Swedish international is keen on the move and is currently training away from the Newcastle first team squad.
