Austin explosion: Massive 'blast' in Texas leaves 'entire houses shaking'

Locals in a neighbourhood of Austin, , have been woken in fear and left panicked after a explosion caused entire properties nearby to shake. Officials have reported that there are "multiple patients" as a result of the incident. Photos and video footage from the scene show devastation after the explosion, with the property's neighbours receiving "massive shockwave damage".

People can be seen walking amongst the debris. It has been reported that authorities have closed a "large area" near the destroyed home, and residents say multiple other properties have been "heavily damaged". Photos also show "burned insulation" in the street. It is believed at least four other homes were affected, and people at neighboring address were "trapped by ceiling debris". Emergency responders are said to have been clearing one at a time. Power cables are also thought to have been affected, leading to a power outage.

Locals said the blast "shook buildings for miles", with one person left shaken after it "rattled" their windows and .

Another person wrote: "Some kind of large explosion in Northwest Austin just occurred." A different post read: "Anybody else hear and feel a huge explosion in NW Austin just now?"

One resident also wrote: "Just felt/heard an explosion south of my home. Not super close by the volume of the sound, but still close enough that it was felt in my neighborhood."

Another local added: "Anyone hear and feel that explosion in Austin North West a few moments ago? Woke me up in fear!"

Austin-Travis County EMS said earlier today on X that there have been "reports of a house explosion with multiple patients".

Medics are "on scene and en route".

Cedar Park Police said: "We are aware of the loud 'boom' that was heard and felt throughout the city.

"We received reports that there was an explosion but it was in the Austin area."
