Charles Hanson has been absent from since 2023. The 46-year-old, who has also starred in , Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip, had been off air while facing serious allegations of assault and coercive control against his wife Rebecca. He had denied all the charges. In February, a jury at Derby Crown Court found him not guilty on all counts after a three-week trial which laid bare the collapse of his marriage to the 42-year-old radiographer. The couple are now divorcing.

The BBC expert has since made a big announcement on social media and confirmed his official return date to Bargain Hunt after several months off-air. He was swiftly inundated with messages of support after he shared he will be making an appearance in June. Writing on X on Wednesday, he tweeted: "Evening all for those asking, I'll be back on your screens soon - catch me on @BBCBargainHunt on 2nd June, BBC One at 12.15pm. enjoy! CH x."

Charles accompanied the post with a video clip where he opened up about his love of antiques.

He began: "It's been a busy day on the road and people are saying to me, 'Charles, what inspired you to become an auctioneer?'

"As a young boy growing up I was shy, I had a stammer, had very few friends. My parents bought me a metal detector when I was about 11 or 12. In about 1988, I went out on my parents ploughed field on a wet and lonely day and I uncovered a silver shilling. It was dated 1630."

The antiques expert admitted it piqued his interest and told viewers, "if you enjoy my auctioneering then tune in on June 2".
