According to reviews, Cardiff's Westgate Street is the UK's worst, with a star rating of just over two on the search engine. Motorists have complained about a series of issues concerning the car park including the , inaccessibility, poor signpostage, and lack of security, reports . The low rating is based off the 596 reviews left on Google.
One user who was taken back at the price and lack of signs, wrote: "This place is terrible - from the stench of urine, to the absolute rip-off prices. Parked for a little over 3 hours and got charged £23.80, after 7pm on a weekday!? No prices advertised anywhere in the car park - avoid at all costs. My friend parked in John Lewis for the same amount of time for £3.60. I feel absolutely violated. DAY LIGHT ROBBERY!"
Other users of the car park reported that security staff at the car park were nowhere to be found and therefore there was no-one that could help if you had an issue, leaving people feeling unsafe as a result - particulary when using the car park in the evening. Users also added that it made them not want to leave their care there.
Another person wrote: "Possibly the most expensive car park I have ever been in. Stuck in the middle of a one way system and inadequately sign-posted. Once inside and the automatic door shuts behind you are in the largest concrete urinal I have ever been in.
"Parking bays are just big enough for a car but not if your passengers want to get out. Use the NCP app to get a £1 reduction in the hourly rate and still be in the most expensive car park I have ever been in."
WalesOnline reporter, Bryana Francis, visited the car park, confirming that the smell in the stairwell in particular was "palpable". She said: "The spaces were small, meaning it was tricky to park and hard to get out your car without hitting another and going up each ramp required a tight turn.
"There was only one pedestrian entrance into the car park and it meant entering next to the cars and walking down a dingy side street which might not feel safe at night."
She also noted that despite reports of both lifts out of order, one was working as she arrived, but both were "quite narrow" likely to be unideal for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs.
Parking at the car park starts from £5.95 and goes right up to £32.95 for any stays between five and 24 hours. Bryana also revealed that there is an early bird deal costing £10.95 for the day if drivers arrive before 9am and leave by 11:59pm. However, "there was little advertising about the prices."
NCP has been contacted for a comment.
