Chelsea and Real Betis fans clash in ugly scenes as police use tear gas

and Real Betis fans have clashed in Wroclaw, Poland, in ugly scenes ahead of tomorrow's final. Videos shared on social media show tables and chairs sent flying outside a restaurant in what appears to be a city square.

Several clips have been shared online showing fans of both clubs clashing with their rival supporters, in addition to the police. Local authorities are seen desperately spraying tear gas in an effort to quell the tension. In one video, people throw tables and chairs outside a restaurant. Others positioned further away from the establishment throw missiles and water. Police then wade into the fracas with tear gas.

In separate footage, which appears to show the same restaurant from a different angle, fans from an adjacent establishment that was out of shot in the first video are seen throwing objects. Police initially attempt to approach that group but decide to retreat when several missiles are thrown. The local force attempt to protect one of the groups from being struck.

A taxi parked outside one of the restaurants begins to reverse to avoid being caught in the line of fire. Police can be seen making an attempt to clear objects from the road that separates the restaurants but to no avail.

In all videos shared of the incident, there is loud shouting and lots of glass is smashed. One person is seen attempting to make their way across to the other group, only to be intercepted on their way over the road. The video then stops.

It comes less than a week after Manchester United and Tottenham fans were seen clashing in similar scenes in Bilbao. On that occasion, groups at opposing ends of a narrow road launched missiles from one end to the other. Spurs went on to win the Europa League final 1-0 against their Premier League rivals.

Chelsea are hoping to end the season by winning their first piece of silverware since the 2021 Club World Cup. It would be the maiden trophy of the BlueCo-led era at Stamford Bridge, which has involved over £1billion in transfer spending.

Head coach Enzo Maresca said: "The message in the last 48 hours has been, 'We did something important, but if we want to confirm that we are becoming an important club, we need to show the desire to win the title and to win the game'.

"So, job done, fantastic, all happy. But tomorrow is a different game. It's a final. And it's a game that we want to win at any cost. Like I said many times, to build a winning mentality there is only one way. You cannot build a winner's mentality if you don't win games."
