Chelsea have three goalkeeper alternatives if Mike Maignan deal falls through

No Mike Maignan, no problem for Chelsea at the Club World Cup, as the Blues went on to win the competition with their existing No.1 Robert Sanchez between the sticks. The Frenchman had been heavily linked with a move to the capital club, but for one reason or another, it didn't get over the line in time.

Enzo Maresca is said to be unsure about Sanchez's long-term viability in goal, hence the talk of a transfer for Maignan. However, if Chelsea are unable to rekindle interest in the AC Milan shot-stopper, who might they go for instead? Express Sport have picked out three goalkeeper alternatives Chelsea could look to sign instead of Maignan this summer.

Lucas Chevalier - Lille

Having caught the eye during Lille's run in the Champions League last season, Lucas Chevalier has since been touted with a move to one of Europe's biggest teams. At 23 years old, he's a player who has his best years ahead of him and would therefore fit nicely into Chelsea's transfer strategy of buying players with plenty of potential. He's not too bad with a ball at his feet either - something which could appeal to Maresca and his possession-heavy style of play.

James Trafford - Burnley

It's a similar situation with James Trafford, who as well as having the age profile, is also home-grown. The Englishman has impressed at Burnley since joining from Manchester City, and we know just how much Chelsea love signing a player who came through the City Football Academy. But if they're to chance their arm with Trafford, they'll have to move quickly, given City and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in the shot-stopper.

Diogo Costa - Porto

And finally, the most experienced and possibly most likely alternative on Chelsea's list: Diogo Costa. The Portuguese international has been linked with a Premier League switch for several years now, and there are suggestions it could be about to come this summer. Even though Costa is only 25 years old, he boasts plenty of years of experience in the Champions League and international tournaments for Portugal. As a result, it's no surprise that Costa will likely cost the most out of the options on this list, with a fee as high as £65million having been mooted.
