
There is an easy method to follow when it comes to growing your own basil at home and it simply involves using the basil that you have bought in the supermarket.
Basil is a popular herb to grow for UK and it can be grown relatively easily. It is a delicious herb used in many Italian dishes but some gardeners like to grow it for a range of things such as salad and curries. Additionally, basil is because it has a strong smell that they will be turned off of. So, how should you grow your basil? One expert has shared their simple method on Instagram and it is rather straight-forward, using the basil that she had bought in the . While we tend to buy small amounts of basil in the supermarket, she managed to get some massive basil plants out of it.
Instagram user @goodboneslondon showed her huge basil plants and explained how she got them to grow to the size they did.
She shows her plants in concrete pots which sit on saucers. Her three simple steps include watering the saucer, never the soil. Then, she advises that you keep the saucer full at all times.
Finally, she reveals that you should never pluck leaves from your plant. When a time comes that you need basil for a recipe, such as a pasta dish or , you should trim the stem just above the leaf rather than just pulling the leaf off.
Then, you cam use the trimmed basil to make more plants from it. Simply pop these into a glass bottle full of water and let it grow. Eventually, ou will be able to pot this and repeat the process.
She also shared a number of other handy tips for growing basil at home, including using bigger pots and regular soil. She also says that this strategy works best in warmer months of the year and indoors.
The massive basil plants she shows in the video are three months old. "Give it time," she says.
She adds: "Once it's big, trimming will keep your basil healthy and bushy. Trim off any flowers immediately."
