The hugely popular BBC show first premiered in 2020 with huge success and launched the careers of Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones. Normal People has received an almost perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes with an impressive 91% rating and fans branding the programme a "heartbreaking masterpiece". Set in Ireland, the 12-part series follows a couple from their teenage years through to adulthood, as they bump into each other over the years after school, and bond over the ups and downs of their lives. Edgar-Jones stars as Marianne and Mescal as Connell, who come from different backgrounds but the same small town in Ireland, as they weave in and out of each other's romantic lives.

The hit BBC show has now been added to streaming platform Disney+ for UK subscribers. Fans have since left plenty of reviews since the show was released five years ago and some have shared the programme will have you reaching for a box of tissues.

One fan shared "it pierced the heart of this wretched old soul", while another asked "Why does this show hurt so much?" adding, "oh so painful".

A third remarked: "I lost so much sleep when I discovered this heart-warming, heart-wrenching, and heart-breaking masterpiece."

While another dubbed the show as "like a modern War and Peace".

Following the show's success, Mescal has gone on to appear in several films and shows.

He has starred in in the similarly tear-jerking Aftersun and All of Us Strangers, the recent gay romance The History of Sound, and the blockbuster Gladiator II.

Meanwhile, Edgar-Jones went on to star in Where the Crawdads Sing and the legacy sequel Twisters.

Normal People is available to stream on Disney+.
