Every year, it's the same: the weather begins to show signs of turning, evenings arrive a little sooner, and suddenly I'm craving a pumpkin-spiced latte. This can only mean one thing. It's Harry Potter season.
As soon as the clock strikes September, I try to hold off and prolong summer as much as possible, but the urge for a bit of fantasy escapism always wins. However, I don't start with the first film, which came out back in 2001; my go-to of the franchise is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I was seven when it first arrived on the big screen, and I can still remember the first time I watched it, probably a short while after its release. My big brother was watching it, and I decided to join him. I didn't make it very far through, werewolves were not for me and I had to cover my eyes.

Now, it's a different story. As I grew up, I became increasingly interested in films. In fact, I remember attending the midnight screening of the last two parts, Deathly Hallows, which marked a peak of my early teenage years. But it's the third film of the franchise that I love most of all, for various reasons.
Firstly, it has a very different feel to any of the other movies, given that it was the only one directed by (one of my favourite directors), Alfonso Cuarón. It is moody, mysterious, and so clever.
We also see the introduction of my favourite character of the franchise, Remus Lupin, who is the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. I always enjoyed his role in the films, as he felt like one of the few constants for Harry, and they had a kind of father-son relationship.
My favourite scene of the whole franchise is in Prisoner of Azkaban, too, when Harry gets on the infamous night bus. There are so many memorable scenes. In fact, when Harry's auntie is blown up like a balloon and floats away into the sky, we see the introduction of the dementors, and there is a very well-thought-out time-travel element to the movie.
Of course, watching this autumnal film leads me straight into the others, and I end up binge-watching nearly the entire series throughout the month and well into October. I usually leave the first two, though, as they have a younger feel and I prefer to watch those around Christmas.
I doubt I'll ever tire of rewatching the Harry Potter series, as each time I have done so, I've noticed something different or learned something new about the characters. I am currently making my way through the books, too, which I neglected in my younger years, but it feels like something every fan of the franchise should do once in their life.
So, if you're looking for a bit of comfort as the seasons start to change, consider returning to your youth and rewatching your favourite childhood movies. It works every time.
