Parts of two major UK motorways have been closed this morning (Friday) after a police incident. The M1 in Hertfordshire is closed northbound between J6 (Waterdale Interchange) and J6A (M25) between St Albans and Watford. National Highways said due to the location of the incident, the M25 is also closed clockwise between J20 and J21 and also anti-clockwise between J21A and J19.
National Highways said: "The M1 is CLOSED northbound between J6 (#Waterdale) and J6A (#M25) due to a Hertfordshire Police incident.
"Traffic has also been stopped on the M25 in both directions within J21 (near #StAlbans). Please plan ahead if travelling in the area this morning."
The agency added the closures would lead to "long delays" of 30 minutes or more.
A statement from Hertfordshire Police on X said: "We are currently dealing with an incident on the M1 at J6A, (Chiswell interchange) which is also affecting J21A of the M25.
"If you are planning to travel through either junction on your travels, we recommend that you seek an alternative route as the road will be closed."
