Russian propagandist Vladimir Solovyov has suggested using tactical nuclear weapons in response to the recent sanctions from the US and Donald Trump against Russia. The non-profit organisation Russian Media Monitor has shared a clip of Solovyov, an ally of Putin and key Kremlin propaganda orchestrator, claiming on the Russian radio show Full Contact that THE Kremlin should move on "from planned exercises" to the "unannounced use of tactical nuclear weapons".
According to Solovyov, Russia should start "carrying out strikes on a number of targets that will be determined by the military to radically change the course of the war."
He continues: "Then, I think we should freeze relations, we should recall our Ambassador from the US, we should recall our Ambassador from Great Britain. Trump cancelled the meeting, and said it will happen later. Why is Trump the one to determine this?"
"The bromance is over," Solovyov adds.
He also accuses Trump of disrespecting Putin, claiming Russia should use weapons "of a different level of power and ruthlessness".
Solovyov's reaction ties to the new US sanctions against Russia announced on Wednesday. They were the first sanctions imposed on Russia since Trump returned to office and are expected to hurt the country's revenues.
However, Russia's president Vladimir Putin has insisted that they were not strong enough to affect the economy.
In the video, Solovyov goes on to suggest that Venezuela, whose leader, President Nicolás Maduro, is a Trump adversary, and should be supplied with weapons to take the fight to the US.
He adds that Trump had slid down to the level of "pindos" - a slur in Russia for Americans.
Solovyov's words do not directly reflect Moscow's foreign policy, with some Russians on Reddit calling him a "performer" who is not taken seriously.
However, he is known for promoting the Russian government's narrative and impacting Russia's political discourse, especially among older people.
