Rare coin collector shares 'super' 50p worth £40,000 - but you need one detail

Rare coins have become the latest craze, especially after a penny worth £200,000 features a "tiny" unique detail which everyone is after.

Coin enthusiasts are frequently reminded to scour their spare change for these uncommon treasures, as some can fetch a pretty penny - hundreds or even thousands of pounds. For those on the hunt for a windfall, specifically a cool £40,000, keep your eyes peeled for a "super rare" Brexit 50p piece. The TikTok sensation @CoinCollectingWizard, with a following of 251,000, disclosed the crucial detail collectors should be on the lookout for.

He exclaimed: "£40,000 for this 50p, yeah that's right £40,000 but you must pay attention on what to look for.

"So let's start from the beginning, this Brexit 50p from 2020 and as you can see it clearly has the Brexit date at the bottom of the coin. But did you know there is another date out there on this 50p and only a few have ever been found?"

He elaborated: "If you find the Brexit 50p coin in your change which is most likely as millions were minted for circulation then all you need to do is check the date at the bottom of the coin."

"If your date says 31st January 2020 then this is just the regular common version worth 50p," he added.

"But if you are super lucky and find one with a date other than 2020 such as this one from October 2019, then you have just found a super rare error coin and yes it is been known to sell for £40,000."

He explained: "Just be sure you know what you are looking for any date other than 2020 and you have hit the jackpot."

This TikTok user is a veritable oracle when it comes to numismatic knowledge.

He previously revealed in an exclusive interview that if you're planning to begin collecting coins, there's one particular piece you should watch out for.

"I think the Kew Gardens would be a good place to start as it's the rarest coin in circulation then could discuss some of the other rarer 50ps and £2s," he explained.

"Spotting a fake/copy version of a Kew Gardens is normally quite obvious. If you look under the queens neck there are letters IRB which is the designers initials."

He added: "If it says IRB copy then it's fake. The other way is always on the queen side. No detail in the queens hair and crown. The most expensive Kew Gardens is a good proof version that originally sold for around £700 and recently sold at auction for £6,000.

"Best place to find Kew Gardens is trying to get bags of 50ps from your post office or bank as you have a higher chance of finding one if you are looking through lots."
