The manager of Australian sprinting sensation Gout Gout has warned the world that comparisons with are unfair. Gout, 16, is quickly becoming one of the most exciting young talents in his sport.
He quickly shot to fame when he trounced one of Bolt's records , by recording a time of 20.60 seconds - 0.01 seconds faster than Bolt in the same competition - at the age of 14. Earlier this month, he clocked an impressive 20.29 seconds at the All Schools Queensland Championship, the fastest by an Aussie for over three decades.
He has already been and the opportunity to train with gold medallist . Despite the mounting acclaim and opportunities, his mentor is keen to temper expectations.
In a conversation with ABC Sport, James Templeton, Gout's manager, said: "I've avoided using the 'UB' [Bolt] comparison. I think that's unfair to a young athlete.
"For 18 months I've basically said a blanket 'no' to every media outlet in Australia that has asked. We just want to allow him to be a normal kid at school. We don't want him to have any distraction.
"It's all going to be ahead of him. We want his life to be as normal as possible for as long as possible. But the modern world with viral videos, despite saying no to media, he has gone viral and everybody is starting to get to know him."
While he wants to move away from the comparison with the Jamaican, Templeton admits he is excited to see what's in store for his young prospect. He added:"Having seen a lot of great young athletes and sprinters over the years, I'm firmly convinced he has that something a little bit special to kick through to the very highest levels.
"It's great watching him run. He's got that flow and rhythm which is just mesmerising. Watching him come off the bend and in that last 50-60 metres, it's very special."
Gout has already been asked about the comparisons with the superstar. However, he is not concerned by the plaudits and is instead flattered by them. Gout said: "It's pretty cool. Usain Bolt is arguably the greatest athlete of all time, and just being compared to him is a great feeling.
"Obviously, I'm Gout Gout, so I'm trying to make a name for myself. If I can get to the level he was that would be a great achievement."
Bolt's monumental legacy features eight Olympic gold medals, alongside his collection of 14 World Championships medals, including 11 golds, two silvers, and a bronze. The global sprinting sensation also stamped his authority in the history books with a world record for the 100m achieved at the Berlin World Championship in 2009, where he crossed the finish line within 9.58 seconds.
