The main singles draw at the US Open does not start until this weekend but the mixed doubles are already well underway. The first round of matches took place last night with Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz teaming up on the court. They were dumped out in the very first round by Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula, who progressed to the semi-finals.
The revamped mixed doubles competition has divided opinion with many fans eager to see top players battling it out in a unique setting. Others have reacted furiously, viewing the event as a gimmick which lacks the usual amount of Grand Slam prestige. The semi-finals and final will be played on Thursday with a £736,880 prize available to the winning duo.
