With its narrow lanes, working harbour and picture-postcard views, Portloe has long remained one of Cornwall's best-kept secrets.

According to travel experts at , "there's nothing much to this coastal village, other than a cluster of cottages, a couple of fishing boats and a cobbled slipway - but that's all part of its charm".

Many visitors seem to agree. One reviewer on said: "It's one of those hidden treasures that we love.

"Tucked away and not easy to find, but so worth the trip. There is no beach to speak of - this is still very much a fishing village."

One holidaymaker who walked into the village from a nearby campsite said the views made the uphill return worth it.

They wrote: "Portloe was worth the walk, such a pretty harbour and the views from the top are amazing."

There's not much in the way of shops or attractions, but that's part of the appeal.

"A small working harbour delivering fresh fish, lobster and crab to the local hotel and pub. Easy to watch the time go by here," one visitor added.

Those after something more active can enjoy clifftop walks with sweeping views of the Cornish coast.

And thanks to low light pollution, Portloe is also ideal for stargazing, with a sky quality rating of 21.63 - high enough to spot constellations, the Milky Way and more.
