Lucknow: A thick piece of two-foot-long wood logs, weighing 6 kg, was allegedly placed on the railway tracks between Malihabad and Kakori stations on the Lucknow-New Delhi rail route. The incident came to light when a passenger train hit the wood block and dragged it for some distance on Thursday night. The block lodged under the metal wheels began dragging along, putting thousands of passengers' safety at risk. Fortunately, the loco pilot stopped the train, preventing a possible derailment.

Following this incident, RPF, GRP, and railway officials arrived at the scene. An FIR was filed at the Malihabad police station based on a complaint by Senior Section Engineer Ajay Kumar.However, this is not an isolated incident; earlier in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, a gas cylinder was found on the tracks. In Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district, 10 detonators were discovered along the rail line.In the latest incident near Lucknow, a signalling device was damaged, affecting services on the Lucknow-Hardoi route and prompting loco pilots to exercise caution. An FIR has been lodged at Malihabad police station, and nearby stations issued alerts, dispatching inspection teams to assess the situation. Railway officials reported that the team, with help from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), removed the wooden block from the tracks, though railway traffic was delayed for about two hours.“Upon receiving the loco pilot’s report, the RPF found a machete and a 6 kg piece of wood near the tracks. An FIR has been registered at Malihabad police station against unknown individuals,” stated Northern Railway spokesperson Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay.The central government is taking these incidents seriously, assigning the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate possible sabotage. Officials revealed that the NIA has launched a preliminary inquiry into recent derailments; while no conclusive evidence of sabotage has surfaced, the agency is examining four incidents across multiple states.
