Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris on Friday, ahead of the upcoming presidential elections in November. DiCaprio, an ardent environmental activist, posted an Instagram video on Friday where he emphasized on the urgent need to address climate change and its effects on the globe and the economy.
"Climate change is killing the earth and ruining our economy, we need a bold step forward to save our economy, our planet and ourselves," the Academy Award winner said. "That's why I'm voting for Kamala Harris," the actor added. The "Don't Look Up" star has extended his support for Democrats in the past. He attended a fundraiser event for Joe Biden in early 2020. He was also vocal about the damages caused by Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene in his Instagram post. DiCaprio praised the Vice President's ambitous goals towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and her plans to build a green economy. He also commended Harris's involvement in passing the Inflation Reduction Act. With the final day of polls approaching, Harris has found support from several celebrated figures from the film and entertainment industry. Celebrity singers who endorsed the Harris campaign were Beyonce, Usher, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, John Legend, Cardi B and Eminem. Other celebrities who extended their support for Kamala Harris were Meryl Steep, Oprah Winfrey, Chris Rock and George Clooney. Former president and Republican nominee Donald Trump has also found support from several celebrities including Kid Rock, Roseanne Barr, Dennis Quaid and Elon Musk. The 'Titanic' actor had met then president Donald Trump in 2016 to discuss the possibility of environment concentrated jobs that would help in economic boost.
