The skeletal remains appeared to be several days old. Police transported the remains to the mortuary. Efforts are on to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
On Friday, a herdsman detected a putrid odour while leading his cattle to pasture in a mountainous terrain approximately 15 kilometre from Barmer district headquarters and stumbled upon a skeleton. The herdsman alerted the villagers.
Ganpat Singh, a resident of Lunu Khurd village, said, "This morning, I ventured to the field to graze my cows. Four or five cows strayed towards the hills. When I proceeded to retrieve them, I detected a putrid odour. Upon investigation, I discovered a human skeleton. We notified the local representative and arrived at the location." According to the villagers, wild creatures ravaged the corpse.
Barmer Rural police station officer Vikram Dan Charan said, "An investigation is underway regarding the skeleton. It appears to be more than a fortnight old. A DNA test will be conducted on the remains. Identification remains pending."
