Jaisalmer: Two minor brothers drowned in a water tank just 100 metre from their home in Ratnasar Mangale ki Beri village, Gudamalani subdivision of Barmer district, Thursday evening. The tragic incident occurred around 7 PM, when the children, aged 12 and 9, were found floating in the tank by their family.

"The boys—Prakash (12) and Mohit alias Mohanlal (9)—were visiting Ratnasar with their father, Baburam Jat, from Shivpura to attend a family function. While the adults were occupied with a retirement programme, the children were playing near the house and are believed to have slipped into the tank and drowned," said RGT police SHO Adesh Kumar. Baburam is a labourer at the Gudamalani agricultural market.

When the family noticed the children missing, they searched the area and found their bodies in the tank. The family pulled them out and rushed them to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Police said the bodies were sent for post-mortem Friday and later handed over to the family. A case was registered based on a report lodged by the children's uncle, Jetharam.

The sudden loss of the siblings has left the entire family and community grief-stricken.
