Kochi: Students of Thiruvananthapuram region once again raised the bar on academic excellence as they secured top and second positions in the Class X and Class XII CBSE examinations, respectively, for the 2024-25 academic year. CBSE schools across Kerala come under the region.
In Class X results, Thiruvananthapuram secured the highest pass percentage of 99.79, sharing the top spot with Vijayawada among all 17 CBSE regions.
Out of the 63,387 students who appeared, 63,296 passed. Gender-wise performance remained equal.
In Class XII, the region maintained its strong track record with a 99.32% pass rate, but slipped to second position behind Vijayawada (99.60%). Of the 41,295 students who wrote the exams, 41,097 passed, showing a slight but notable improvement compared to previous years. Girls outperformed boys by 0.5%, in line with the national trend.
School managements and other stakeholders in Kerala have praised the efforts of students, parents and teachers for consistent success.
Indira Rajan, chief patron of the council of CBSE schools Kerala and general secretary of the national council of CBSE schools, attributed the success to structured learning and a highly skilled teaching workforce.
"For the past 10 years, the Thiruvananthapuram region has consistently led in Class X and XII results," Rajan said. "Though Vijayawada took the top spot in Class XII this year with a 99.60 pass percentage, Thiruvananthapuram followed closely with 99.32. The difference is marginal. In terms of excellence, we haven't fallen behind at all."
Rajan added that Kerala's skilled teachers and relatively distraction-free academic year contribute significantly to the region's continued academic success.
CBSE management association president Ibrahim Khan said the region's performance reflects a disciplined academic culture and strong support systems.
"The schools in Kerala have curated teaching practices that align well with the National Education Policy," Khan said. He also noted that the consistent success of CBSE students in Class XII and other competitive examinations such as NEET and JEE could prompt more students from state board English medium schools to shift to CBSE institutions.
The CBSE Class XII examinations for the academic year 2024-25 were held from Feb 15 to April 4 and the Class X examinations from Feb 15 to March 18.
