Ranchi: Private schools in the city affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) are now aligning their exam preparation strategies for subjects like mathematics and Hindi with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. These schools are emphasizing conceptual learning in their study materials and teaching methods to enhance student readiness for exams.

According to experts, the CISCE has announced significant changes to the examination pattern for 2025 Class X board exams, aligning with the NEP. The revamped methodology emphasises conceptual understanding in mathematics, Hindi providing students with an additional half-hour for the subject, bringing the total exam duration to three hours. Earlier, students were allotted 2.5 hours for the mathematics examination.

Don Bosco School office coordinator Uma Shankar Sahu said, "The CISCE aims to enhance students' comprehension and reduce mental stress, ensuring a more robust and supportive learning environment. The decision is a broader initiative to strengthen students' mental fortitude. The introduction of multiple-choice questions in the exam format marks a notable shift, as they were not previously included."

As per the new guidelines, Hindi and mathematics exams will follow the 3-hour format, while other subjects will maintain a duration of 2.5 hours. Teachers have expressed optimism about the new changes, highlighting that the sample papers released for the 2025 session have been crafted in accordance with NEP provisions.

Father Shaji Joseph from St Francis School in Harmu said, "The inclusion of marks for MCQ questions will aid students in their preparation and reduce the overall mental pressure associated with exams. These papers focus on assessing students' understanding, application, analysis, memorization, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, the marking scheme has been shared to provide students with clarity on evaluation processes."

Sweety Ghosh, a parent of Class X student of St Xavier’s, said, "The integration of conceptual learning strategies and extended exam durations will foster a deeper understanding of maths, preparing students for future academic challenges. "
