Dumka: Local residents opposed an attempt by alleged land grabbers to sell a vacant plot in Rasikpur locality under the town police station limits of the district.
Dumka CO Amar Kumar swung into action after a group of residents approached him on Saturday alleging that when they opposed ongoing flattening work at the plot, they were threatened with dire consequences.
"A group of goons have been attempting to grab the land in our locality for a long time and sell it by preparing fake documents," Vikki Yadav, one of the protesters, said, adding that the land grabbers made a similar attempt in 2021, which was foiled by the local residents.
Sarda Devi, another signatory, said, "The land grabbers are openly threatening to kill us if we pose any resistance to them."
The CO rushed to the spot in the evening on Saturday along with a police team and suspended work on the plot till the ownership was verified.
"I have also directed those who started work on the said plot to come forward with the documents showing their legal position," the CO said, adding that the ongoing works would remain suspended until the clarity on the ownership was established.
